    Description

    Bicorn Hat and Quill Pen Used by General John Stark. Bicorn hat, cotton / fur construction measuring 8" X 18", gold bullion trim on the face, twisted gold tassels at each side. Interior displays a 2 1/4" oilcloth sweatband and light brown polished cotton lining. Hand stitched throughout. Pinned to the crown is a cloth tag on which is written "Stark" in brown ink and a string tag with the printed number "20". Exterior shows much wear to the fur finish with a number of small tears in the underlying cloth, interior sweatband shows moderate wear. Accompanying the hat is a printed 4 1/2" X 9" card reading " GENERAL STARK'S HAT General John Stark fought in the French & Indian Wars as a lieutenant in Roger's Rangers. During the Revolution he served as a colonel at Bunker Hill, Princeton, and Trenton. As a General, he commanded the "Green Mountain Boys" whose defeat of a part of Burgoyne's army under Col. Baum at Bennington, Vermont aided in Burgoyne's later surrender at Saratoga. This hat was found in the attic of Gen Stark's home at Dunbarton, NH. along with other relics associated with the General."
