DescriptionAmerican Officer's Hanger/Hunting Sword C. 1775 30 1/2" overall with rather narrow 24 1/2" blade. Central fuller running the length of the blade with narrow fuller along the top extending to the 8" false edge. Blade generally dark and smooth with some small scattered areas of light pitting and a few nicks. All brass hilt with S shaped cross guard with tear drop quillons, which exhibits decorative engraving. Brass chain guard with fierce, but somewhat primitive, lion head, attesting to its American manufacture. Nicely detailed despite its somewhat primitive form. Black spiral carved horn grip about perfect. There is no scabbard.
Classic example of the sword carried into battle by many American officers in the early stages of the Revolution.
