18th Century Iron Mounted Italian Bell Mouthed F/L Blunderbuss with Folding Buttstock. 34½" overall with 20½" essentially round barrel that flares to width of 1¾" at the muzzle. Barrel generally smooth and gray with some small scattered patches of light pitting. The breech area is engraved and inlaid with silver flowers and leaves with a circular engraved silver panel depicting an architectural scene. The iron furniture is all chiseled in deep relief, however, the trigger guard finial and rear ramrod ferrule extension are broken and missing. Elaborate scrollwork iron side plate which mounts a 7" iron belt hook with a hole for apparently attaching a sling with a hook. Lock signed "Angelo Bini". The barrel tang is overlaid with gold, the tang screw is missing. The stock overall is decorated with silver wire and floral rosette inlay, about 50% of which remains. A push button at the base of the wrist releases the butt stock. The aperture is surrounded by a silver inlay while the button itself is an incorrect replacement. There is a hairline crack, with no loss, and not affecting soundness, underneath the lock and there are a number of small chips around the lock. 2½" horn nosecap and retains what appears to be the original horn tipped ramrod. A most impressive gun simply requiring some competent restoration.
