Description

18th Century European Combination Hunting Sword F/L Pistol with Unique Decoration. 21" overall, with 5" octagon to round barrel .38 caliber pistol attached to the right side of the blade. Gooseneck hammer centrally hung from the back of the sword handle which contains the lock. Sword blade smooth and light gray, about perfect. The pistol barrel exhibits some scattered salt and peppering. The all brass hilt uses a shell guard with relief figure of a running antlered deer amid foliage. The quillon is a dog's head. The brass handle with push button trigger on the underside is absolutely unique in our experience. The reverse side depicts dogs cornering a boar at the base, with extensive scroll work at the pommel. The grip is composed of two plaques with screws visible on the obverse side that allow removal to access the pistol lock. There is a relief grotesque mask on the face of the pommel. The obverse side of the grip exhibits a remarkable scene depicting what is clearly a North American Indian aiming a bow and arrow at a fleeing deer that is being pursued by a dog. Obvious depiction of the sun with a face and rays in the sky. The scene is bracketed by scroll engraving at the pommel and the base. Hilt overall in about perfect condition. A rare firearms curiosity and most rare with the depiction of a Native American.
