[Revolutionary War] 1779 Edition of Boston's Independent Chronicle Mentioning a Proposal in Georgia to Arm Slaves to Fight the British. Four pages, 9.5" x 15.5", Boston, May 13, 1779, fine condition. Four pages of fine content including a fabulous account of a proposal in Georgia "talked of among Southern gentlemen... of manumitting a number of the blacks and forming them into regiments, who, upon their good behavior during the continuance of the war, are to have their freedom ever after...We have, however, no advice that such a plan has ever yet been laid before Congress. It is not doubted but some of the first officers for reputation and family, in the service of the States, would cheerfully command in such a corps, for the defense of their country".

    More Information:

Another interesting account concerns a demand by the American Congress "(which has been sent over by Gen. Clinton) for all the officers who have come to England upon their parole of honour, to return immediately, and surrender themselves, except General Burgoyne, who is permitted to stay, in expectation that a general inquiry into his conduct when in America, will take place during the sitting of parliament." The paper also contains a notice of an upcoming sale of vessels captured by the Warren, Queen of France, and Ranger.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
