    Description

Revolutionary War: Dramatic Mezzotint Portrait of John Paul Jones. 14" X 18" mezzotint titled "John Paul Jones, Commander of a Squadron in the Service of The Thirteen United States of North America, 1779." No indication of publisher or date published, but likely 1779. One of America's most famous naval heroes, when Captain Richard Pearson of the British naval vessel Serapis asked Jones "Have you struck?", Jones reportedly replied "I have not yet begun to fight!" Though possibly apocryphal, it became part of American naval history and folklore. Good condition, save for very mild toning. Wide margins.
