Remarkable Pair of Bronze Cannons Modeled After 17th Century Continental Types. Identical in form and style with 19½" (including the cascabel) cast bronze barrels, with a 63mm in diameter breech, 12mm trunnions, and 1¼" bore. The bronze barrel has had many interesting details cast into its design including a generic Continental royal crest on the top rear of the breech, and the date "1630". Figural dolphins and decorative bands add interest to the barrel. The barrels are mounted in wooden carriages which measure 24½" in length. The outside edges of the carriages are decorated in simple relief carving. Two 10" wheels with studded copper rims are mounted to each carriage. The cannons could have been constructed in the late 19th or early 20th century and exhibit excellent workmanship, though there are some minor casting flaws in the bronze barrels. The pair are generally in very good condition and would a handsome addition to the "war room" or study.
