Rather Scarce P1858 Enfield Artillery Carbine in Fine Untouched Condition, Tower 1861. All metal with deep, dark, smooth untouched patina with just some very minor dark surface rust in the breech area, really excellent. Folding two leaf rear sight. Wood about perfect with dark rich patina, again completely untouched, with just a few very minor dents. Crisp stockmaker's cartouche of Bentley & Playfair. Brass furniture also perfect with deep dark patina. Excellent markings, mechanically perfect. Breech proof #25 and #19 on bayonet lug. Missing only the swivels, otherwise complete and original in every respect and probably not touched by a screwdriver since the Civil War. Purchased by the US at the beginning of the war in limited quantity, with substantially larger quantities purchased by the Confederacy, this example being indigenous to Texas. Very desirable with this early war date.
