Rare Original WWI "Treat 'em Rough!" U.S. Tank Corps Recruiting Poster. 27½" x 40½". Mounted on linen. A fantastic poster, seldom encountered in the original issue. It features a vivid illustration of an angry black cat above a scene of WWI tanks heading into battle. The poster is captioned "Treat 'em Rough!/ Join the/ Tanks/ United States Tank Corps." There are a few closed tears on the edges, with most of the damage along the bottom margin where the paper has lifted from the linen backing, fortunately not affecting the image, and easily repaired. Otherwise, with the exception of some toning to the paper and a few scattered areas of light soiling in the margins, the illustration remains bright and in very good condition. This poster has often been reproduced in the last few decades which is proof of its appealing nature and artistic quality, transcending its historical significance and association with the fledging U.S. Tank Corps.
