Prussian Guard Dragoon Officers' Pickelhaube. An interesting guard helmet with a dragoon-style black lacquered leather body, fiber visors and gilded trim. The 5" tall fluted brass spike with silver perlring sits atop a silver cruciform base affixed to the helmet by four gilded star-head studs. The studs are of the prong variety, one of which has suffered the loss of one prong and inner washer, but the other three are complete and retain their original inner washers. The spike top is threaded and can be removed. The gilded eagle is beautifully detailed and the mounted guard star has a pronounced convex appearance. The front plate is affixed to the helmet with two threaded posts, one of which retains the original nut and washer but the other post is missing both nut and washer. There are no additional holes in the front of the helmet body. Two of the brads holding the rear spine to the helmet body are missing their inner washers. The brass chin scales have lost much of their gilding but are complete. The large two-piece Reichs and Prussian cockades are still present. The officers' style liner is complete with the leather band and silk lining. There are no size or manufacturer markings present on the helmet but there is written "SCH-1." in white marking ink on the underside of the rear visor as well as the inside of the helmet body. The helmet is in excellent condition with some minor crazing to the leather body. The wartime cruciform base has lost most of its finish.
