    Description

Prussian Administrative Officials' Pickelhaube. Dragoon-style helmet with lacquered black leather body, fiber visors and brass trim. The helmet features a slender 5½" tall spike with a screw-off top, and round base mounted to the helmet using four brass star-head studs. The studs retain all nuts and inner washers. The gilded line infantry eagle exhibits excellent detail, though the small eagle's head on the scepter is broken off. A smaller silver Prussian eagle is mounted near the bottom of the front plate indicating administrative status. The front plate is mounted to the helmet by two threaded lugs and both the inner washers and nuts are still present. There are no additional holes in the front of the helmet. The brass chin scales are complete. The chin scale bosses are the folding prong type and are missing the inner washers. The helmet is complete with the large two-piece Reichs and Prussian cockades. The officers' style liner is complete with the tan leather sweatband and silk lining. One of the more amazing things about this beautiful helmet is its size: it is hand-marked "60" on the inside of the dome. Large size spiked helmets are rarely encountered and typically bring a premium from collectors. The helmet has some light, trivial crazing to the leather body, otherwise it is in excellent condition.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
