Pristine condition Civil War Period Rotary Valve Cornet in the original wooden storage case. As fine an example as we have ever seen. Professionally restored a number of years ago and remaining in basically like-new condition. 11 1/2" overall. Body with a copper tinge with brass 7/8" floating rim. Rotary valves work perfectly. Interestingly there are a couple of period hairline cracks on the outer face of the bell, with a brass reinforcing piece added to the floating rim at that point. The original wooden storage box is constructed of pine with brass hinges, brass lock and brass bail handle on top. 8 1/2" high, 13 3/4" long, tapering from 5 1/2" wide at the bell end to 4 1/2" wide at the mouthpiece end. Case in excellent sound condition retaining most of the original finish with scattered dents/scratches commensurate with normal use. Also accompanied by "Whites Sample Cornet Book", C. 1885 with paper covers and complete sound condition. Includes numerous pieces of military music including several pieces dedicated to the GAR. Again, as fine an example as we have ever seen and unquestionably period.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
