PRESIDENT LINCOLN ON BATTLE-FIELD OF ANTIETAM (No. 23). One of the Civil War's most famous photographs, captured by the lens of Alexander Gardner himself. President Lincoln poses outside the headquarters tent of General McClellan just two weeks after the battle of Antietam, surrounded by still other generals and staff officers. The image is particularly clear and filled with wonderful detail, revealing a tall and powerful Lincoln. Mount measures 13 by 10 inches and the image is 9 by 6.75 inches. There is a small chip in the upper right corner of the mount but no damage to the image itself. Dated 1866 and noted "Alex. Gardner, Photographer" with the date taken: "October, 1862." Very historic.
