US M1842 .69 Caliber Smoothbore Percussion Musket, Springfield 1845. An very nice untouched/uncleaned example. Completely 'in the black', the gun retains vestiges of a very old tinned or nickle finish, else with smooth dark patina with some light surface rust in the breech area. The gun would certainly clean to excellent. front sling swivel broken/missing as is the tip of the front band spring, else complete and original in every respect. Excellent markings although the tang date is currently illegible, mechanically fine. The wood is really excellent, dry and untouched with very sharp edges and just a few nicks/dents near the front band. Nice inspector's cartouche. Properly hand cleaned. an exceptionally nice M1842 and especially desirable with this pre Mexican War date.
