    The finest we've ever catgalogued

Unfired, Near Mint U.S. M1841 .54 Caliber Percussion Mississippi Rifle, E. Whitney/ 1851. The rifle retains 90% of the original lacquer brown with just some very small spots of old dry surface, some tiny scratches near the muzzle, and one small abraded area, with a matching abrasion on the wood, on the left side of the barrel between the bands. Mechanically perfect, crisp markings, with lock dated 1851 and barrel tang 1850, "Steel" on left side of barrel at breech. Lock retains most of the original case colors, just fading with some very minor staining. All brass furniture perfect, spare nipple in the patchbox. The wood is excellent+ with deep crisp inspectors' cartouches, GT and WAT. Smooth, with nice dark patina and light feathering. There is a tiny chip just forward of the trigger guard, and one abrasion midway between the bands on the left side, else about mint. A truly exceptional example of this most beautiful of US military longarms, and especially desirable in the original .54 caliber configuration.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
