Reverse etched with panoplies / scrollwork and floral motifs along with American flag and liberty cap. Blade overall bright and clean with just one small area of light pitting near the tip. Hilt of classic regulation form with urn shaped pommel with capstan. Folding counterguard works fine, although the retainer button is frozen. The knucklebow exhibits a slight bend, but no cracks or breaks and easily repaired. Hilt retains traces of the original gilt. Face of the brass scabbard with 13 1/2" section engraved with scroll work and eagle and shield. The lower 9" with a panel also covered with scroll engraving. Scabbard with a few minor dents, triple ring mounts and frog stud with cast decoration. The top lip of the throat exhibits a minor bend on both sides, easily straightened. The back of the scabbard is plain and has a few very minor dents near the tip. A superb quality example, in fine condition, of this very rare regulation American officer's sword seldom seen available exhibiting this level of quality and workmanship.
