    Description

Full Stock Silas Allen Flintlock Rifle. Very rare example stocked in curly maple rather than cherry, first example we've seen. 39½" octagonal smoothbore 65 caliber barrel. Signed "S. Allen" in block letters just forward of the rear sight. Likely Silas Allen Jr. Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Although difficult to detect, we believe it is a well executed reconversion to flintlock. Metal generally smooth and clean with some surface rust. All brass furniture typical of Allen's work with projection on front of trigger guard, finely engraved brass lock bolt plates configured as teardrop and oval. 3¾" engraved brass toe plate and typical engraved two piece patchbox, the lid of which is engraved with initials and the date "1826". All brass furniture about perfect. Also displays the truly iconic New England/ Allen detail of intricate silver wire inlay extending from around the barrel tang to the comb of the stock, with the central motif of a domed, engraved oval silver escutcheon. Wire inlay appears to be 100% intact. Stock, with typical New England architecture, exhibits deep rich extensive curl, really the finest piece of maple we've ever seen on a New England rifle. A rare and beautiful American rifle.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
