Description
A beautiful rifle by one of Pennsylvania's most important and universally desirable makers.
Full Stock F/L Pennsylvania Rifle by Jacob Dickert Lancaster Co. Pennsylvania C. 1815. One of the most important of the Lancaster County makers, Dickert's work is highly prized by Pennsylvania rifle collectors. While an example of his later work, this rifle typifies the quality and beauty of the rifles he consistently produced through his long and prolific career, likely beginning C. 1760 and producing rifles until his death in 1822. This rifle is 60" overall with a 44" .50 caliber smoothbore octagonal barrel. The gun is signed in script "J. Dickert" just behind the v-notch rear sight. The gun appears to be in its original F/L configuration and uses a Sweitzer lock. All brass furniture with deep dark untouched patina. The four piece patchbox exhibits decorative engraving on the side plates and on the finial which features opposing scrolls. The patchbox release is on the butt plate tang. Oval silver cheekpiece plate and oval silver wrist escutcheon, both also exhibiting decorative engraving. Unembellished side plate of a typical Lancaster county form. Barrel is held in place with four iron wedges. Wood really exceptional with smooth dark patina, just a few tiny very old slivers along the forestock, really negligible and simply the result of honest use. The upper 8" of the forestock has been restored, but the work is absolutely imperceptible. Retains what appears to be the original ramrod. Single trigger, mechanically perfect. The barrel is dark and smooth with just some very light pitting in the breech area. The lock has an old untouched coat of very light pitting mixed with old surface rust.Auction Info

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.View More Testimonials
