Fine American Eaglehead Officer's Straight Sword C. 1830. 32" straight blade with fuller running open to the tip. Decorated for 1/3 its length with engraved, gilt highlighted, scrollwork, and white etched panels, on a fire blue background that terminates in scrolls. White etched panel on both sides, between the engraved decoration, with floral/scroll work. Retains much of the original gilt and 70% of the fire blue with some fading/mixing with brown patina. Undecorated portion of the blade really excellent, with touches of the original luster. Absolutely no rust, pitting or nicks. All brass hilt retaining touches of the original silver wash. Knuckle bow decorated with seven graduated balls, disc quillon. Open mouth eaglehead with pronounced crown. Fluted bone grip with one very minor age hairline but very sound with nice patina, brass ferrule at the base. Hilt overall with nice untouched patina. There is no scabbard. Nice sword in fine condition.
