Exceptional US M1842 .69 Caliber Smoothbore Percussion Musket, Harpers Ferry 1844, the Earliest Production Date Encountered Metal generally smooth and gray with just some very minor salt and peppering near the breech and small area of very light pitting on the butt plate tang. Mechanically crisp and tight with excellent markings including tang date of 1845. Wood excellent with rich dark patina, untouched, with light but visible inspector's cartouche. Just one small sliver at the left side of the barrel tang above the lock bolt. Complete with a period brown leather sling. A very nice example of a pre Mexican War dated M1842 and especially desirable from the Harpers Ferry Arsenal.
