Exceptional Quality American Eaglehead Officer's Straight Sword, Circa 1825. 32 1/2" straight blade decorated for 1/3 its length with gilt engraved floral, scroll and arms panoply motifs, retaining 30% of the original gilt. Blade overall smooth and gray with absolutely no rust, pitting or nicks. Exceptional all brass hilt with large counterguard incorporating highly detailed cast motifs including seated liberty with American shield, American eagle, arms panoplies, and motto with oval of stars at the top. Dolphin head quillons on both sides with the knucklebow also bearing highly detailed deep relief cast decoration. Finely detailed open mouth eagle head with distinctive crown. Finely checkered one piece wood grip with leaf decorated brass ferrule at the base. Hilt overall about perfect. The brass scabbard is decorated over 50% of the obverse surface with deeply engraved floral, scroll and leaf motifs. Two carrying rings and decorated frog stud. There is an old brass band repair at the lower ring mount, and the scabbard has a few scattered dents on the back side with a minor bend, all easily restored. The throat is missing.

A superb quality American eaglehead just in need of the slightest 'touch up'.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
