    Exceptional C. 1810 American Mounted Officer's Saber by Lemuel Wells & Co. 1 1/4" wide, 34" curved blade, decorated for 1/3 its length with gilt highlighted engraving on fire blue background. Obverse includes L. Wells & Co./ New York logo at base, along with arms panoply and primitive American eagle with shield on breast and riband, surmounted by cloud with 15 stars. Obverse with floral/scroll work and standing liberty figure with American shield. Blade retains 80% of the original gilt and 40% of the fire blue with the balance of the blade smooth and dark. Just some scattered small nicks, minor. Brass hilt retains 70% of the original gilt with capstan rivet and outboard branch, which contains a diamond piercing. Checkered ivory grip with light hairline and one tiny chip, very sound with rich mellow patina. Leather scabbard, with scalloped edge gilt brass mounts, in excellent sound condition, mounts retaining 50% of the original gilt with just a few very minor shallow dents. Original brass carrying rings and frog stud. A beautiful American officer's saber in a very rare form.
