    Description

    C. 1855 Full Stock Bedford County Pennsylvania Percussion Rifle by John Amos. 39 1/4" .41 caliber full octagon smoothbore barrel, with smooth dark patina and just some pitting at the breech. Silver blade front sight on brass dovetailed base, V notch rear sight. Long slender hand made lock, with unique Bedford county hammer, signed in script J A. All brass furniture with typical slender trigger guard and side plate. 4 1/2" toe plate with an old 1/2" repair to both the toe plate and the extreme toe of the butt. We are of the opinion that the lower ramrod pipe, although of the correct configuration, is a period replacement, being slightly smaller than the original aperture. Very nicely figured maple stock with excellent curl on the fore stock and violin like finish. An old repair to a hairline crack with no loss at the wrist, as well as a hairline at the toe of the butt, both of which should be properly restored. Stock overall with smooth rich patina. Adjustable double set triggers with the ramrod appearing to be a period replacement. Nice example of a plain rifle by this iconic and very desirable Bedford County maker.
