    C. 1850 Philadelphia Style Percussion Derringer Signed J. M. Jones. Although Jones is known to have made other similar derringers, he is unlocated. 5 1/2" overall with 2" .41 caliber rifled barrel. The barrel is round with flat rib on the top, which bears the block engraved signature J. M. Jones. Patent breech scroll engraved, and inlaid with two silver bands. Tang, lock and hammer all profusely scroll engraved. All furniture/decoration is of silver, including scroll engraved trigger guard, engraved plate beneath the drum, wedge escutcheons, shield shaped wrist escutcheon, butt cap strip, nose cap strip, which is fastened with a tiny screw, lock bolt washer, and flame like inlay opposite lock, which is also scroll engraved. Whoever Jones was he was clearly a skilled craftsman. All metal with smooth dark patina mixing with traces of finish, very crisp. All silver clean and perfect. The walnut stock shows some honest wear with checkered grip and very minor hairline with no loss on the left side of the forestock, easily made imperceptible. An exceptionally nice little silver mounted American derringer.
