    Description

    C. 1845 English Percussion Belt Pistol Marked "St. Louis" on the Top Flat of the Barrel. 10" overall with 6" .48 caliber octagonal smooth bore barrel. The barrel retains much of the original twist finish, else generally smooth and gray. Marked in 1/16" block letters, absolutely of the period, on the top flat "St. Louis". The patent breech is engraved and inlaid with two silver bands, detachable barrel tang also engraved. Back action lock, marked Clark, scroll engraved with the hammer engraved to simulate an animal's head. Lock and hammer both smooth and gray, very nice. Iron trigger guard, with acorn finial, scroll engraved. The engraving somewhat worn and exhibiting substantial salt and peppering, as does the rear ramrod ferrule, the front ferrule being brass. Silver nose cap, wedge escutcheons and small oval wrist escutcheon. Stock overall excellent with checkered grip. Smooth dark patina with a minor hairline with no loss just forward of the lock bolt. Retains what appears to be the original ebony ramrod which is tipped with ivory and brass. Nice little gun with very rare markings.
