American Staff Officer's Coatee C. 1835 - 1840. Exceptionally fine quality blue wool with double breasted ten button front. Split cuffs with three button closure. Four buttons at each tail pocket and one at the top of each skirt. Large eight pointed gold bullion star on buff backing at the base of each tail. Raw cut hem but all edges of the coat with delicate/narrow black welt/piping. Two hand whipped holes at each shoulder for attaching epaulettes with 1/2" wide gold bullion tape to secure the board. 3 1/4" high black velvet standup collar with two 21/8" long, 1/2" wide, strips of bullion tape at the front on each side. The entire collar was originally bordered with 1/4" wide gold bullion tape, however only the half on the right side remains in place. Quilted wool body lining, white cotton sleeve lining. One coat button is a period replacement and two cuff buttons are missing, otherwise all buttons are GS240A4 (Tice) W. H. Horstmann & Co. / New York / Extra Superfine. The coat is overall in superb condition with just a few tiny scattered moth holes, really very minor / negligible. A beautiful American military coatee obviously destined for a high ranking field grade officer. Most attractive and rare.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
