American Percussion Half Stock Rifle C. 1860 - 70 with Unique German Silver Furniture. Probably Ohio/ Indiana. 51" overall with rifled .40 cal. octagonal barrel, 7/8" across the flats. Barrel smooth and dark gray, just some pitting at the breech. German silver front sight, hand made rear sight adjustable for elevation. Double set triggers and although the trigger mechanism works, the gun will not stay at full cock. Engraved back action lock marked Ashmore, fine bore. The gun uses a 5¼" barrel tang that extends nearly to the comb. Maple stock in very fine condition with deep rich smooth patina and just a few very minor handling marks. The stock is fabricated in a "fish belly" format with molded cheekpiece on both sides. Inlaid on each cheek piece is a 2" x 3¼" German silver hunting horn, possibly referring to the use of this insignia by Civil War Union infantry. Behind the cheek piece on each side is a pinwheel with two five pointed stars. The toeplate extends the entire length of the underside of the butt stock, from butt plate to trigger guard extension. German silver butt plate and triggerguard. The side plate is a scroll and the wedge escutcheons are embryonic birds. German silver forend tip and ramrod ferrules. All inlays and furniture in perfect condition. Retains what appears to be the original ramrod, broken at the tip. A wonderful American rifle, exhibiting unique design elements and decoration.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
