    Description

    [James Madison] 1815 New Hampshire Broadside Announcing the Treaty of Ghent, Ending the War of 1812. One page, 13.75" x 20", printed at the offices of the Portsmouth Oracle [New Hampshire], February 19, 1815, even toning, a few smoothed creases, edges unevenly cut, else fine.

    A long broadside titled "Treaty of Peace" with five columns of printed text containing the full text of the eleven articles agreed upon by the United States and Britain ending the War of 1812. The introduction announces "Whereas a Treaty of Peace and Amity between the United States of America, and His Britannic Majesty was signed at Ghent, on the twenty-fourth day of December one thousand and eight hundred and fourteen...". The broadside is signed in print by James Madison as President and James Monroe as Secretary of State.
