    Post War / GAR Personal Effects of Capt. Cornelius Neil Boyer. Includes GAR ribbon/badge for Unity Post No. 171, Veteran's Home, Calif. which is back with a black "In Memoriam" ribbon. A black "In Memoriam " ribbon for John A. Martin Post. No. 153 Soldiers Home, Calif, with bronze G. A. R. pinback bar at top. A red silk ribbon with pinback name tag frame at top, with Modesto at top and the motto Water Wealth Contentment Health at the bottom. Ribbon gilt embossed for 60th Encampment, Department of Calif. and Nevada, Women's Relief Corps at Modesto, Calif. May 5th to 9th 1935. White silk ribbon for 31st Annual Convention, Daughters of Union Veterans...Dept. of Calif. and Nevada, Berkeley, Calif. April 30 to May 5 1939. John Martin post ribbon with tear but intact, all other ribbons about perfect. Also included is Boyer's Gettysburg 75th Anniversary Reunion Veteran's medal. Inscribed on the bar Cornelius N. Boyer and numbered 426 on the back of the medal. Also the corresponding attendant's medal, inscribed to his daughter Mrs. Bessie E. Hague. Both medals are in perfect condition, in the original box as issued, with ink inscription in the lid of each listing the dates of their visit to Gettysburg etc. Additionally, the group includes a 3 12" X 6" ring bound notebook kept by Boyer as a journal during the trip from Sacramento, Calif. June 25th 1938 to Gettysburg for the reunion, and return. Includes fascinating details of the reunion itself, as well as their return trip during which they visited other GAR posts in Michigan, as well as their visit to Washington, D. C. after leaving Gettysburg. 50 ink and pencil script pages with wealth of detail about the reunion as well as their meetings with other veterans during the journey. Really a unique document and the first such journal we've encountered. The last entry is "December 5th 1939 Entered Veteran's Home and Hospital this day". Also included is an ink script poem written by Boyer to his wife on their 50th wedding anniversary, bound in a custom gilt embossed red leather folio. All items stored in a book case with gilt embossed title "Memorial Chimes" A really fascinating grouping.
