    Orderly Book for the 1st Military District. Folio ledger, 10.25" x 15.5". The first twelve pages are filled with orders dating from June 15, 1858 to October 28, 1858. Contains General Orders No. 1-14, all issued by Colonel D.M. Frost. Pages 15-21 are written in a different hand containing General Orders No. 21, 25 and Special Orders 1-3, dating from April 25, 1861 to May 9, 1861. These orders were also issued by Colonel Frost. The rest of the pages of the book are blank. Bound in brown leather.

    The First Military District was one of five temporary administrative units in the South set up by the War Department, this one being located in Virginia.

    Condition: Cover and spine are worn, with some rubbing and material loss, especially along the spine. Page edges are lightly toned. The binding is loose but intact.
