New York Chaplain's 10th Corps Badge. A fine gold wreath encloses the nicely embellished Tenth Corps "fort" emblem on this badge that belonged to Joshua Butts, the 50-year-old Chaplain of the 47th N.Y. Vol. Infantry. The reverse of the medal is engraved "Chaplain Joshua Butts" over "Fort Wagner/ Olustee/ Drury Bluff/ Cold Harbor/ Petersburg Mine/ Fort Gilmer/ Fort Fisher." The fastening device no longer remains. The badge is sound but there is an indication that the front may have had an additional piece affixed. Butts served from September 1862 to June 1865 with this fighting regiment. Chaplain's memorabilia is particularly difficult to find.
