    Model 1860 Cavalry Saber Named to Henry J Foote 1st N.Y. Veteran Cavalry. 34 ¾" blade mostly bright with minor dark staining, marked on the ricasso " C. Roby W. Chelmsford Mass", and "U.S. 1864 A.G.M." on the reverse in deep clear letters, clean blade a mix of bright and gray with minor dark staining. Perfect leather grip and twisted wire wrap. Brass guard excellent back strap stamped in ¼" letters " H. J. Foote. Co. I 1st N.Y. Vet Cav.". Steel scabbard is dark, uncleaned, no damage or dents. Henry J. Foote enlisted as a private in Company M 1st New York Veteran Cavalry 11/18/1863, transferred to Company I 10/31/1864. The 1st NY Vet. Cavalry served in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland in the latter part of the war losing 150 men. Included is an extensive file on Private Foote and the 1st NY Vet Cavalry.
