Massive Mid-18th Century Continental F/L Holster Pistol. 22" overall with 14¼" octagon to round .65 caliber smoothbore barrel that flares slightly at the muzzle. Relief chiseling and gold overlay at the breech and at the stepdown. The barrel is inlaid in silver Baron De Lutzou on the top flat, giving the impression of a script signature. The ornate brass blade front sight is set on a silver inlaid base. All metal smooth and clean, about mint. Rear sight also with gold overlay and gold overlaid engraving on the barrel tang. The unengraved lock is finished in a Damascus pattern. All brass furniture is unembellished with the exception of the side plate which terminates in an open mouthed serpent's head. Interestingly the inside of the trigger guard bow is die stamped No 10. Burlwood stock extensively relief carved including unusual scroll work at the tang. There is a hairline with no loss just behind the nosecap, else about perfect with rich patina. Horn nose cap, the gun retains the original horn tipped ramrod. Overall a magnificent gun on which we believe the barrel signature to be the owner rather than the maker.
