    Description

Lot of Four German Stag-Handled Hunting Knives. Includes: (1) Small stag-handled dirk with 4¼" bright blade, marked "A. Storz Munchen", with the initials "JZ" engraved on the pommel. The blade is bright and unsharpened and is complete with sheath. (2) Long 9" blade marked "FW Ortmann Solingen". The brass guard has been ground down and it's missing the leather washer. The pommel and stag handle are a bit loose and one of the three brass "acorns" is missing. The knife has been rudely sharpened and is lightly coated in surface rust. (3) Long 11¼" unmarked blade in a stag handle with a lanyard ring pommel. Some fine milling marks on the blade, otherwise very good condition in a leather sheath. (4) Exceptional hunting dagger with a 16¼" double-etched blade made by W.K.C. The blade is bright and the engraving distinct. The knife features brass "hoof" quillons and a clamshell guard, ornate pommel and stag handle decorated with three brass acorns. This beautiful knife is complete with brass throated and tipped leather scabbard. About 25% of the black dye remains on the leather.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
