Color illustration of an aerial dog fight used as a frontispiece in both volumes. Color plate of escadrille insignia. Profusely illustrated with photographs. Original blue cloth binding with titles and vignette stamped in gilt. Top edge gold. Boards with moderate wear, especially at the corners and spine ends, with additional scattered stains and darkening to spines. Volume one's binding shaken, still the set is in very good condition. After 90 years this set still remains the best reference book on American flyers in the Lafayette Escadrille.
