    Description

Winchester M1866 Cal. .44 RF Saddle Ring Carbine # 23345 Mfg. 1869. A very early third model with all metal generally smooth and dark. Brass frame excellent although missing loading gate and an absent screw hole implies that absence of other internal parts as well. The action works fine but the hammer will not remain in the cocked position with the movement of the lever, although it can be cocked by hand. The saddle ring has been cut off at the mounting posts which remain. Wood shows considerable wear and use with some roughness along the top edge of the forestock near the receiver, and a number of tiny holes (actually look like bird shot) on the right side of the butt stock. Wood with smooth dark patina. An honest representative '66 SRC certainly worthy of restoration.
