Description

Very Fine Winchester M1873 Second Model Rifle, #78185, Manufactured 1881. Caliber .38-40, full octagon 24" barrel, shotgun butt with plain steel butt plate. The shotgun butt is not verified by factory letter but shows every sign of being correct and original to the rifle. The gun overall retains 70% of the original bright blue, the balance fading/ mixing with a pleasing smooth dark patina. The hammer and lever exhibit 80% of the original case colors. Mechanically perfect, mint bore. Wood really excellent with just a few minor scratches/ dents and nice smooth patina. The left side of the receiver is tapped with two additional small screws, as can be seen in the photograph, apparently for mounting a sight. Again appears to be factory work. A most attractive M1873 in a desirable configuration.
