    Exceptional example and especially desirable with this extremely low serial number

    Very Fine, Factory Engraved Colt M1883 Hammerless Double Barrel 12 Gauge Shotgun, Serial Number 52, Accompanied by Factory Letter. Shipped October 7, 1884, to a Mr. Heffner, no address given. 30" barrels, the engraving charge being $10.00 for what is identified as "Grade 2". Barrels retain 99% of the original Damascus finish. All other metal smooth and gray, very nice. Engraved coverage on frame/ receiver, tang, trigger guard , lever, sliding safety, and forestock release. Coverage features very tight, delicately executed, scrollwork overall, a smooth coat dog pointing partridge on the left lock, and a long haired dog pointing a bird on the right lock, with a duck in flight on the underside of the frame. Hand engraved patent dates with crisp Colt markings on center rib. Wood excellent with just some smooth even wear, crisp checkering on pistol grip, forestock, and behind the locks. There is a small silver escutcheon inlaid on the underside of the butt, wedge shaped ebony inset on the tip of the forestock. Hard rubber rampant colt on the butt plate with engraving on the screws. There is one tiny chip of the upper edge of the forestock on the left side, negligible.
