Description

Unusual and Very Elaborate American Air or Gallery Rifle. .25 caliber 20½" octagonal smoothbore barrel that tips down for loading when a button is depressed on the right side of the walnut forestock. The spring loaded mechanism, which generates the air to fire the gun, is contained in a 5½" long metal cylinder behind the barrel that is elaborately roll engraved with scroll work on the top. The barrel is smooth and dark. The cylinder retains 50% of the nickel finish with one patch of surface rust on the bottom. The large trigger guard, which is also elaborately engraved, serves as the cocking mechanism with the lever to cock the mechanism contained in the underside of the buttstock. An elaborately engraved plate on the top, behind the cylinder bears the inscription "Charles Marion Prop." apparently the proprietor of the gallery. The walnut butt stock is finely checkered at the wrist with a schuetzen type cheek piece. Stock in fine condition with nice patina and just some scattered dents. Adjustable trigger, the gun seems to work fine with a perfect bore. Most unusual and quite a piece of workmanship.
