    Description

Pristine Condition U.S. Officers Black Felt Slouch Hat, Circa 1880. Hat is overall in about mint condition, still blocked to its original form. Fabricated of the finest black wool felt, two lines of decorative stitching along the outer edge, 0.5" black silk hat band and retaining the original black silk and bullion woven hat cord. Just some fraying on the end of one of the acorns, and two small tears, with no loss, on the hat band. 2.125" high brown leather sweatband, embossed "Regulation/ U.S./ Army". Sweatband shows signs of just the slightest use, just one tear with no loss, else about mint. Really choice example of a regulation U.S. officer's slouch hat from the Indian Wars period.
