Nicely Decorated C. 1870 Box Knapsack Probably New York State Nice sound overall condition with 1/2" red leather border and "5" in 3" high red painted numeral over "Battery." in 2 1/2" high letters, on the flap Also painted in the lower right hand corner on the back in red 1" high letters 5 over 17. Tarred canvas covering of the entire knapsack excellent, wooden body / frame very sound and tight. Interior flaps also present and fine along with string tie closures. Nice representative example. All exterior straps have been removed.
