Nice, Honest, Well-Used, 1st Model Winchester M1873 Saddle Ring Carbine, #16833. Caliber .44-40, hand engraved serial number. The gun exhibits the anomaly of utilizing a brass buttplate of the standard 1873 carbine form, with sliding door for the cleaning rod. Certainly an unusual and interesting modification and unquestionably commensurate with the period of the gun's use. Metal displays a nice smooth dark patina with scattered traces of blue. Oval thumb rest on dust cover, mechanically fine, very good bore, excellent markings. Two of the frame screw heads have been damaged and should probably be replaced, minor. Wood with nice rich patina, just showing honest use. A few very minor chips/ slivers along the top edge of the fore stock, now worn smooth from age/ use. Actually adds considerable character to the gun. A nice early 1873 SRC manufactured in 1877/78.
