New York State Officer's Chapeau de Bras in the Original Storage Case, Circa 1860-1870. 5" high, black ostrich feather plume laid horizontally on the top, 0.5" wide bullion tape with New York state seal staff button. 1.625" high maroon Moroccan leather sweatband, white silk lining. There is a 0.5" black velvet band along the edge and a black velvet bow at one side. Included in the storage case is the original tarred linen rain cover with cotton ties at each end for affixing to the chapeau. The original form fitted storage case is fabricated of wood covered with cotton fabric. It is compartmented inside for the both the hat and the rain cover. Storage case in fine condition just some fraying on the edges of the fabric covering. Chapeau excellent just showing some honest wear on the nap of the "beaver skin" covering. Rain cover also excellent with just some minor crackling of the tarred finish. Nice period ink ID in the top of the lid "Major / T. J. Lee". Scarce in this complete condition.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
