    Description

Named C. 1890 Regulation US M1872 Cavalry Officer's Saber. With the exception of a very minor bend in the guard, where the branches join the knucklebow, the sword is overall about mint. 33.5" curved blade deeply etched with floral/scrollwork on the obverse with central panel bearing the name in Old English letters Henry Chauncey Jr.. Also eagle surmounting cannon at the base of the blade. The reverse of the blade also with floral/scrollwork with American shield, American flags along with US in the center. Maker's logo Ridabock/ & Co./ New York incorporated into the etch near the base of the blade. The blade is overall mint. The regulation style hilt is about perfect with the exception of the minor aforementioned bend. Sharkskin grip with brass wire wrap perfect. Regulation style scabbard also mint with brass mounts bearing relief decoration and retaining 100% of the nickle and gilt. Chauncey doubtless a volunteer/ militia officer as his name does not appear in Heitman. An absolutely superb example of this regulation US officer' saber and especially desirable incorporating the name of the owner.
