Marcus Reno: A Fascinating Official Government Report on His May 1877 Court Martial for Conduct Unbecoming an Officer. In an episode reminiscent of recent events, Reno, who at the time was in command at Fort Abercrombie, D.T., was involved in an ongoing series of improper advance toward the wife of a subordinate, Captain Bell. The court martial found him guilty on most counts, and the initial sentence was that he be dismissed from the army. However, in the light of his distinguished twenty years of service, President Grant commuted the sentence to suspension of rank and pay for two years- still an onerous finding. Six pages, 4.75" x 7", and in excellent condition save for soft fold lines from old quarter-folding.
    From the Glenwood Swanson Collection.
