    M1872, Near Mint, Boxed, New York State Officer's Chapeau. Original pasteboard box covered with variegated black paper, 7 1/2" X 18 1/2" X 6 1/2" high with removable lid. 2 1/4" X 3" paper label on the top of the lid "From / J. H. McKenney & Co. / Military Goods / 141 Grand Street / New York" with ink notation "Chapeau" and owner's name "Maj. R. P. B(us)h" Box in excellent sound condition with just some wear on the edges. Chapeau about perfect with just some minor wear along the edges. Rises to 5", 1 3/4" black silk ribbon diagonally applied on both sides, heavy gold bullion tassels at each end, gold bullion New York state insignia, 2 1/8" X 4 1/8" applied on the right side on black silk cockade. Two black ostrich plumes stitched in place along the top. Interior with maroon 1 5/8" Moroccan leather sweat band, black silk lining, embossed in the crown "J. H. Mckenney & Co. / Military Goods / New York" Interior about mint. A beautiful piece of officer's headgear, and most desirable with the original box in this superb condition.
