Impressive, Sturdily Made American Camp/ Bowie Knife, Circa 1880. 15 7/8" overall with a slightly curved 10½" blade. The blade is 2 1/8" wide, has a 1 7/8" diagonally clipped point, and a 3/8" wide shallow fuller along the top edge. 3¾" oval iron cross guard that is substantially longer on one side than the other. There are 9/16" decorative notches cut on the edge of the long side and 3/8" notches on the short side. Antler grip with a ¾" iron ferrule at the base. Heavy iron flat cap pommel which displays two peaned tangs, apparently to prevent the grip from turning. Knife is in fine untouched condition with deep dark patina overall, some scattered salt and peppering, and some light pitting near the tip. The original thick brown leather scabbard is stitched and riveted along the bottom. Incised line and punch decoration on both sides, and cut on the back with a 3¼" high, 1¼" wide, belt loop. Nice knife with lots of character that doubtless saw yeoman's service in the American West.
