Frederick Benteen: An Important Twice-Signed Carte de Visite Photo. This is a Civil War era image showing him wearing his 10th Missouri Cavalry pin, and Benteen has neatly dated it "'65" below his bust. The CDV is boldly signed below, "F. W. Benteen Capt. U.S.A." On verso he penned: "Send yours in return/ April 11, 1867/ All the way from/ Fort Larned, Kansas/ to my Darling Wife/ at Atlanta. F. W. Benteen/ Capt 7th Cavalry."

All signed photographic images of Little Bighorn participants are highly sought-after, and this personalized example from one of the battle's key figures is particularly so. 2.375" x 4", overall very good condition, with a couple areas of minor ink smudging as shown.
    From the Glenwood Swanson Collection.
