    Description

Four Confederate and One New York Uniform Buttons Excavated from the Site of the Sioux Village at Little Bighorn. We can only speculate as to how these buttons came to be there. An interesting article on the subject by Tim Bradshaw for the July-August 1997 issue of North South Traders Civil War magazine: During the War skirmishes were not uncommon between Confederate soldiers and Plains Indian bands. Former Confederates also were known to wear their uniform jackets in the years after the war as well. It seems likely that these buttons were trophies from that era which were lost or discarded during the Indians' hasty decampment following Little Bighorn.

These five buttons are pictured on page 276 of Glenwood Swanson's G. A. Custer: His Life and Times.
    From the Glenwood Swanson Collection.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
