Description

Civil War US Flap Holster with Large Embossed US C.1867. The first of these we've encountered and we assume it is a transitional holster for use just after the Civil War and prior to the adoption of new equipment and weapons in 1872/73. Maker marked on the front of the flap "J. Davy & Co./ Newark N. J." The 1" high "US" embossed on the top section of the flap. Holster is closed end and contoured to a revolver, probably a Colt M1860 Army. Fine supple condition with just some minor crackling to the finish but no flaking. A very rare US issue holster in fine condition.
